Today the docs did an ultrasound on Carmen to make sure everything was working properly as far as the bypass surgery was concerned. As it turns out, the surgery was not successful. For those of you just checking in, Carmen has a rare blood disease which causes her blood to clot. Because of the blood disease, the arteries that were operated on, are now blocked because Carmen's blood has clotted. The only blood that is reaching Carmen's brain is from two other arteries in the back of her neck. The blood disease also infects the arteries themselves and weakens them, which unfortunately is the case with these two arteries. Carmen is STILL breathing on her own though and her vital signs are the same. The docs took her down to do an MRI this evening but Carmen was moving around too much so they couldn't complete it. The MRI has been rescheduled for tomorrow morning. This will give them more information as to what's going on and what steps they can take next.
