We just spoke with Bert and he said that he was asking Carmen if she was cold earlier and she said, very clearly, "no." Then he asked her another question and she nodded her head yes! She's communicating and that is HUGE. To quote Bert, "That wasn't a baby step, that was a giraffe step!" Also, Carmen's neurologist had some more good news. He said that he thinks she is doing well enough to not have to give her the Heparin. She is on a mild blood thinner medication now and he said he thinks that may be sufficient.
Carmen got a feeding tube placed in her stomach yesterday and the docs were able to take the feeding tube that was going down Carmen's nose out. Having that tube down her throat was most certainly irritating so it's great that she got it taken out.

Keep it up Carmen! We all love you, we're praying for you and will continue to be here for you. You too Albert. We know there is still a long road ahead, filled with many more speed bumps, but for now, we have some great news to be happy about. We're hoping and praying that Carmen will continue to take those baby steps and especially these "giraffe steps."

Carmen, 33 years ago you entered this world and I knew as soon as I saw your face you were an angel. I knew you belonged to Jesus but it was an honor and a privilege when he let me be your mom. I'm so proud of you. You have grown into a remarkable woman. You are an exotic beauty but your inner beauty is what captivates people. You are kind, generous, loving, and thoughtful. You have an energy that lights up a room when you walk in and anyone who meets you or is lucky enough to call you their friend walks away a better person. You are my angel, so positive and the bravest person I know. Your feistiness will get you through the toughest challenge you will ever face. I love you from the depth of my heart my sweet sweet angel. PS I just want all Albert’s and Carmen’s friends to know you guys are the best, and to Albert’s family you are amazing!! Thanks to everyone!! I love you all God bless - Jodi!
