Hi Everyone,
I spoke with Bert yesterday and he said that Carmen had a great day on Tuesday. Carmen can now sit up by herself. Her right leg is doing great and she even took 7 steps on Tuesday with the help of the therapists! They are also doing resistence therapy with Carmen where she is in the sit up position and they push her on her shoulders. Albert said they were pushing her pretty hard and Carmen is able to maintain her position using her core stomach muscles. Everyone was very impressed by all of this. She can even read! Albert wrote his name as well as the names of her dogs on a dry erase board and she was able to read them.
But...Carmen STILL has that terrible Urinary Tract Infection. In fact, it's gotten worse. Today they changed her medication because her body has basically become immune to the medication they were giving her. She also forgets everything quite a bit still. While Tuesday was a great day, Wednesday and today haven't been so positive. Bert said Carmen will be doing really well but then all of a sudden she'll forget everything. I can't imagine how difficult this must be for Bert and Jodi and how frustrating that must be for Carmen. The docs are hoping that the UTI is the trigger for her memory loss. If it is, then hopefully when Carmen finally kicks this UTI, these memory loss sessions will subside a bit.
Oh before I go, I did want to remind everyone to PLEASE PLEASE call Albert and Jodi before you show up to visit. All of our visits are and very much appreciated but may be to much for Carmen to handle if she's not prepared for it. The docs are very adament about Carmen not having any surprise visits because they excite her and make her anxious which isn't good for her. Bert also mentioned that he gets TERRIBLE cell phone reception inside Carmen's room, so to leave a message or send a text and he'll get back to you as soon as he can.
Carmen, we love you! We are all praying that your UTI will be cleared up soon and that you won't lose your memory anymore. We're also happy that you had such a great day on Tuesday and are looking forward to many many more of those!
